Five Days of Greatness – High School Symposium
Friday, February 7
“How can life be worth living, if devoid of the calm trust reposed by friend in friend? What sweeter joy than in the kindred soul, whose converse differs not from self-communion?” – Cicero
High school will celebrate Great Hearts Day by engaging in conversation about a book with friends. This year, they will read Victor Frankl’s Man’s Search for Meaning (these will be handed out by HL teachers next week along with a pacing guide). They will go off campus to a rented space where they will hear a lecture on the text from Dr. Dan Scoggin, one of the founders of Great Hearts Academies. Then, they will engage in small group seminar discussions about the book. Like the middle schoolers, they will have their own service project: making blankets for an animal shelter. Then, they will eat lunch together and head back to the school. Although only 9th graders will participate this year, in future years, this will be an opportunity for the entire high school to read a book and engage in conversation about it together, across grade levels.
We will need parents to pay a small fee for the blanket-making kits (in lieu of providing supplies for GH Serve care packages) and sign a permission slip to be able to go off campus for the day. Please use the link below.
