Intramurals
What is Intramural Basketball?
Intramurals is a Great Hearts Lakeside organized basketball league. The league will last for 8 weeks and scholars will play 8 games. The goal is to teach our scholars the fundamental skills of dribbling, passing, and shooting. We also want to teach scholars game play and the rules of the sport. All games will be playing in our upper school gymnasium.
Format
Scholars in grades 1-4 will play a 3 vs. 3 format. Teams will be smaller (6-8 members per team). Smaller teams allow scholars to get more playing time, opportunities to score, dribbles and passes then they would playing 5 on 5.
Scholars in grades 5-6 will play 5 on 5 full court. At this age, they transition out of the smaller game play and move to a more traditional basketball game, playing the full court.
Practice and Games
Both practice and games will take place on Saturdays, which makes it convenient for families and scholars. They will practice for 22 minutes, listen to the new rules, and then play 4 (6 minute) quarters (running clock).
Evaluation
There will be an evaluation for scholars who want to play on Saturday, December 6th. Evaluations will take place from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Once you sign-up and pay for the league, you will get an email that will allow you to pick a time to get your scholar evaluated. The evaluation process helps us develop equal rosters across the league. It is mandatory for your scholar to have an evaluation.
Benefits
Scholars will get the opportunity to play with their classmates and play on smaller teams, allowing them more opportunities to develop their skills and team play. All games will take place here at GHLS, so scholars will enjoy getting the opportunity to play in their home gym. Intramurals also helps promote community among our families here at GHLS.
Cost
$85.00: Returning players with jersey (if you have the same one from last year, that is what we are using).
$105.00 for new players (or returning) without jersey (jersey will be given to you before your first game).
Parents that enter two or more players get a 15% discount.
Registration
Registration will open 10/24/25 at 8:00 a.m.
Registration will close on 12/5/25 at midnight.
If your scholar is not registered by 12/5/25 we cannot guarantee them a spot on a team.
